Mushrooms, Seaweed and Seabuckthorn

In autumn our shores are brimming with wild edibles. This coastal autumn forage will focus on foraging the delicious superfood Seabuckthorn, and on its many culinary applications. Of course, we’ll also look at other edibles on land and in the water, particularly mushrooms and seaweeds.

Walk along the river Almond and see which wild edibles grow here in late autumn. We will discuss edible and toxic species, identification features, preparation and preservation techniques, and foraging ethics and laws. This three-hour foraging walk will include wild foods and drinks, and, weather permitting, gathering around a fire while we review and sample wild flavours

Pentlands Magic

The Pentland Hills are especially full of magic this time of year: besides ripe fruits and nuts, wild herbs and berries, the alpine grasslands now are studded with a rainbow of brightly coloured fungi. Learn which of these are tasty, which are toxic, and which are mind altering .
This walk includes steep slopes and a wild food picnic.
